How To Pack An Engine for Shipping

On our website today, www.mikeclementsracing.com I have posted on our FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page the Do's and Do Not's of packing an engine for shipping. If you are not the person doing the packing and shipping, print it off and give it to the person who is. These tips have saved many a racer money and hassle.

As you may have noticed Mike has not been answering your private messages on 4cycle.com. He is not able to as the owner of the sight thinks he's too controvesial?, seriously?, when has Mike not spoken what was on his mind? Mike has always been a forward thinker, heck, half of what is available today is because Mike created or re-created it back in the 90's and everybody else copied it, I can't blame them though, you know what they say: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! Over the last 10 years Mike has suffered some serious health issues and business has been only what he could do, innovation was going to have to wait, HOWEVER, I'm very excited to say that recent technology, new medications and Mike's determination have led him to a nice recovery and he's ready to get back out there, in fact, he already has. As some of you know he is now building the BSP Clones in addition to his notoriously fast Open and Modified Motors and if you hang around you just might see some new stuff in the year ahead.....no peeking........!

We Say Good-Bye to Lucy

It grieves me to tell you that we lost our beloved dog Lucy on Saturday December 17, 2011. Lucy was a wonderful & loving Malti-Poo that we had for over 10 years. Unless you own a dog you can't really understand how heart breaking it is to lose one, we will grieve her for some time to come. At the right is Lucy listening to Mike read stories from Motor Life Magazine ;-).

While Mike had not intended to get into the Clone Stock Market he was inundated with requests to build the BSP (Box Stock Project Engine), he decided to start building them and now with such success around the Country we are virtually running a BSP factory. While Mike still enjoys his work on Modified and Open Motors he has been able to use that knowledge to create winning BSP motors. Interesting where life leads us, we are very grateful for customers from all 4 cycle venues.

Moving Again?

Have you ever thought to yourself "I wonder what it would be like to live ??...... Well, my wife and I are dreamers and do-ers, we never wanted to wonder what something would be like, we wanted to try all those dreams on for size, so we decided to leave the desert of Arizona just a little over 3 years ago. We first moved to North Carolina ( race car capital of the world) that was just too cool, all the neat folks we met and all the fun places and tracks we visited. My wife Kim has family in Florida so we wondered what it would be like to be so close to all those beaches! soo, we decided to find out, love Daytona but Kim is a fan of the Gulf, couldn't get enough of Tampa, St Pete and Clearwater. However.............there's no place like home, so yep, we've seen what we came to see and we are headed back home the end of September. We're thinking in the future we'll just take a plane trip :-).

Book is Now Available

Mike's book The Crew Chief's Son is finally on the shelf! You should have seen him the night (yeah I said night) the Postal Service showed up with a box of them! Mike's goal was to tell his father's story. Louis passed away in 1996 and Mike is thrilled to finally get the chance to tell everyone all about his dad and hero. Although Mike hopes everyone enjoys it he is most anxiously awaiting his Mom's thoughts and opinions and she can't wait to get it, as of this posting it is on it's way to her.

You can buy the book from us directly (and yes Mike will be happy to personalize it for you) or you can buy it from Amazon, McFarland Publishing and at this point I'm not sure where else. The book is $35 and $5 is for shipping and handling from us.

We've Moved!

I know, I know, again???!! Actually, we've been planning our current move to Ocala, Florida for many years, we just detoured to North Carolina from Arizona for about 18 months. I have family in the Ocala area that has been trying to get us to move here for the last 8 years & although I wanted to be closer to my family I also wanted to try living in the Charlotte area. I, also being a Nascar fan wanted to be in "race central" for many years, my only regret is that we didn't live closer to Charlotte. As many of you might be aware Mike was offered a position with a Nationwide Series Car based out of the Hickory, NC area & that's what finally prompted our move from Arizona (which Mike dearly loves), there were no guarantees that would work out but we decided to go for it, knowing all the cool things we could do in NC while we were there, and as many of you know that didn't go exactly as hoped, however, we did have alot of fun living around the Home of Nascar, visiting all the museums, going to the tracks, meeting the people & especially spending time at Mike's cousins home on Lake Norman! Unfortunately in March of 2009 Mike had to have 4 stents put into one of his arteries (a continuation of all his existing heart issues) & that kind of dragged him down a bit, not to mention a cold climate is not the best idea for someone in his condition, so we decided to make our move to Florida a little earlier than intended. We miss our good friend Robert Palmer who helped us so much while we were there, Robert knows how many times we went back & forth between moving to the Charlotte suburbs or coming on down to Florida, but in the end, family won out :-) We are of course happy to be here & loving the weather, now we look forward to all our trips to the beach! We will continue to keep the existing phone number, so give us a call, were almost ready to open the doors again, in the meantime we wish you & all of your loved ones a Very Merry Christmas & a Blessed New Year! THE RATCHET HUB: The Ratchet Hubs are designed to be run on the Right Rear of an oval track kart with higher HP. Animal modifieds, 2 cycles, big outlaw engines. When the driver backs off the throttle before entering the corner, the ratchet hub "un locks". This allows the two rear wheels to rotate at different speeds. Since the right rear tire has to go farther, it needs to move faster than the Left rear. That's why we ran stagger in the first place. The use of the Ratchet Hub on the right rear corner will greatly reduce your dependency on rear wheel stagger. The rear stagger will only come into play now when you tune the chassis for corner exit speed. As the driver gets back into the throttle, in or before the center of the corner, the ratchet hub locks the rear tires together again for a posi-traction effect, giving full acceleration capabilities to you high dollar engine. We are always available to help with tuning tips for these hubs. We are as close as your phone. $300.00

The FREE ROLLER hubs are designed to be run on the LR of an oval kart in the stock and restricted stock oval classes. Using one of these hubs on your kart eliminates the need for rear wheel stagger, lets the kart roll through the corner quicker and allows for the kart to increase speed down the straightaway by eliminating that unwanted wheel scrub that comes from rear wheel stagger. $175.00

Machined Billet "H" beam connecting rods for the Honda GX-200 and clone engines. These are stock length rods that exceed the strength of "I" beam rods. These come equipped with military spec 12 point rod bolts and rod bearing inserts. Depending on cam size or stroke of your monster engine, you may need to grind some clearance between the rod and cam. $85 ea.

New Landspeed Tires

Our first order of these new tires sold out like Hotcakes. Everyone who ran them was very impressed and have placed orders with me. The new production run of these tires will be here before the end of March. The name on these new tires will be "Land Speed" tires. We wanted "Speedway", but as luck would have it, Goodyear has a copyright on that word in association with tires.
These tires will punch a 55 at room temperature as you receive them. They have full rubber so as to last all racing season. They compare very favorably to the Maxxis HT-3's and the rounded edges are similar to the Firestone's. As for grip, right out of the box, they are similar to the Burris SS55's. These tires work well on a high grip track and / or a banked dirt oval where the track dries out and gets dark.
If you decide to cut these tires and then roll them in a chemical prep, they are like most any other tire out there, except they cost half as much $$.
